Stories from those who serve.
Meet Lauren.
Constable Lauren Croxford has been with the Edmonton Police Service for fifteen years. In that span, she has worked in multiple areas including, Patrol, Recruit Training, and Drug/Undercover. Currently, Lauren is a Police Service Dog handler with the Canine Unit.
“Each opportunity I’ve had at the EPS has provided me with different experiences and knowledge that I can use on the street, share with others, and ultimately become a better police officer.”
Lauren says her favourite position thus far is being a Canine handler. "It never gets old when your police dog put in all the hard training and work to use in real life," she says. "It's truly a team effort and it is so rewarding. On top of that, I get a best friend who comes home with me everyday."
Lauren says what she likes best about working for the EPS is that there are so many different jobs within the same career. "If I trace where I began my career to where I am now, I’ve followed my personal interests, and it translates into a different position at the EPS.
We make the most of (sometimes precarious) situations, we laugh till there are tears down our cheeks, we stick together…we enjoy the work. That’s what I’ve experienced in my career. There’s nothing better than having a partner who has your back, and vice versa. The people here are a huge reason why I love what I do. The bond between our work units, your squad, colleagues and the people you meet on the job is unlike anything else I’ve experienced”.
When asked to provide some pointers to those considering a policing career with EPS, Lauren proudly says, “Work hard to get there. If you want something, if you want a policing career - don’t take no for an answer - push your limits and abilities to get better. This is a very rewarding career, but you need to be invested and do it for the right reasons. I enjoy staying active as well – it translates across my work and into my personal life”.
When Lauren isn’t working with her Police Service Dog (PSD), she’s playing soccer, running marathons, and enjoying down time. As an animal lover, Lauren has a 14 year old Black lab mix (who doesn’t go to work everyday), but is more than happy to share walks and play time when Lauren and her PSD return home after a day at work.
